24 Facts About Me
I was born at home in Phoenix, AZ, but grew up and spent most of my life in Texas. I lived in the Phoenix area for 8 years (high school & post high school) before settling in Austin, TX almost a decade ago.
I graduated from Arizona State University with a degree in Technical Communication after changing my major several times. Given the amount of time I spent in school, I probably should have graduated with 3 degrees.
My day job is a services project coordinator for a digital marketing company.
I'm an old soul with an uncivilized heart. I’m generally too boring for anyone my age. And while I may sit back and quietly observe 90% of the time, I am not afraid to speak up when it comes to fighting for what I believe is right.
“Less is more” is my mantra. This started in my 20s when I moved a LOT and was traveling between AZ & California on the weekends. I just got tired of hauling things from one place to another and found it was much easier to only hold onto the few thing that were important to me.
I have 3 tattoos that I got when I was 18-24, which at least have some significance:
“Free bird” on the outside of my wrist, which aligns with some of my Buddhist beliefs. It’s just a reminder to live free from attachment, which is not as cold as it sounds. It’s detaching yourself from the ego, cravings, expectations, etc. - all the things that lead to suffering. I absolutely love the Lynyrd Skynyrd song though lol.
Cherry blossoms up my back, which represent the fragility and beauty of life.
"Live now” translated in another language, which simply means to live in the present.
I prefer an all black or neutral wardrobe because color coordinating my outfits is one less decision I need to make in the morning. Plus, no one looks back and regrets wearing black.
I’m very intuitive and sensitive to everyone’s energy around me. It can be overwhelming at times, so I do my best in bigger groups.
I don't drink too often, but when I do - I’m very specific. It’s a whiskey or bourbon on the rocks, preferably something rare and new each time. Or a strong, spicy margarita with some chips and salsa...because Tex-Mex is my love language.
But really, acts of service are my love language. To me, actions always speak louder than words.
I love skincare and trying new products. I’m also on the mission to avoid the sun like the plague, which is the opposite of how I lived in my teens and 20s.
My favorite way to unwind is with a hot yoga class, catching up on my favorite shows, and having at least 1 day in the week without any plans or obligations.
There are very few movies or shows I can rewatch. Some of my favorites though include the Office (obsessed), Seinfeld, and How I Met Your Mother (huge fan of Josh Radnor as a human being).
I’ve learned that not everything in this world requires my reaction and energy, which is one of the many reasons I rarely watch the news.
Fall is my favorite time of year because I love the energy it brings. I often wish I lived in a place where fall was much longer.
I'm fascinated by law, true crime cases, and the study of human behavior. For awhile, I wanted to become a criminal profiler.
I’m known to be obsessed with staying hydrated… like carrying-around-a-64-oz water-jug-everywhere obsessed. If I could have anything on my gravestone, it’d probably be “drink your water.”
When it comes to healthcare, I truly believe you need to be your own advocate. From my personal experience, I’ve had more results working with practitioners who focus on the emotional and spiritual state because it can translate to the physical.
Over the next several months, I would love to self teach myself French - at least enough to speak it on my travels to South France (which is the next big trip on my list).
I’m extremely frugal and resourceful, but not cheap. If I’m good at anything, it’s living up to my last name; I’m really good at saving money without sacrificing quality. I’m actually currently working on a post about this.
I love board games, Wits & Wagers and Catch Phrase are a couple of my favorites.
Besides audiobooks, I also listen to several podcasts each week to pass time in Austin traffic. My current favorites include: the Skinny Confidential, the Minimalists, the Dave Ramsey Show, and JohnJay & Rich (I started listening to them on the radio over 10 years ago and haven’t missed a day since).
“I would rather be someone’s shot of bourbon than everyone’s cup of tea.”
